With Bitcoin starting its journey a mere 8 years ago, it has since grown exponentially, every year this one crypto-currency grows an astonishing 100-200% and it hasn't even yet fully entered into mainstream. The summer of 2017, Japan will be the first country to honor it and make it usable in more than 250,000 locations, although many stores and cafes in Europe and North America already accept it as a form of payment.

Many hedge funds are also beginning to diversify their portfolio investments into it. But there also new crypto-currencies coming into play, some are more secure and others are more anonymous than bitcoins. For example Ethereum has spiked 400% this year alone and Monero has gone up 120% thus far this year.
